Today, when equipment problems arise, most stations either go to a station logo, use a crawl (a long sentence running along the bottom of the screen), or just ignore the problem all together. But years ago, persnickety equipment caused regular outages, so the clever people behind the scenes came up with messages that were often more entertaining than the programs that were supposed to be running.
